FDP COUNTRY ACADEMY PROGRAM 2025

Congratulations to the following athletes who have been selected to participate in the 12 Month program to gain insights, uplevel their skills and learn from Basketball Victoria’s Performance Pathway coaching team!

Well done to following athletes – Maya Henry, Stella Scott, Hamish Lawry, Archie O’Brien, Lucas Pay, Jack Grayling, Vann Neuschafer, Kiara Van Coller, Ivy Patterson, Scarlet Free, Isabel Free, Mia Hirst, Asha Neuschafer, Deacon Roberts.

ACCELERATED WOMEN’S COACHING PROGRAM 2025

Ten women who aspire to further their coaching progression within the Victorian system were selected to form this year’s cohort, after the success of the program in 2024. The group represents both country and metro Victoria, as well as ten different Associations. Congratulations to Tess Denham who was selected for the 2025 Accelerated Women’s Coaching Program. 

School Sports Victoria 2025

Mia Hirst has been selected for the School Sports Victoria Under 12 girls basketball team. To make the team, Mia participated in a number of selection trials and training sessions in Bendigo and Melbourne before being selected in the final team. Mia will travel to QLD and compete in the School Sports Australia National Championships in late July against teams from across the country. SHBA would like to congratulate Mia on this fantastic effort. 

AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY JUNIOR BASKETBALL CUP (ACJBC)

Congratulations to our following Swan Hill Flyers Representatives who attended ACJBC that was held in January 2025. 

Tess Denham coached U14 Girls Bushrangers, Ivy Patterson and Mia Hirst playing in the U13’s Emu’s, Sharon Denham assistant coach for U16 Gild Goldminers, Hamish Lawry playing in the Under 14 Boys Goldminers and Archie O’Brien playing in the U14 Boys Bushrangers.

JAMBOREE REPRESENTATIVES 2024

Congratulations to our following Swan Hill Flyers Representatives who attended BV Under 12’s Skills day that was held in July 2024. The following athletes were selected to attend the 2024 Jamboree.

Deacon Roberts (Explorers), Isabel Free (Kookaburra’s), Stella Scott (Emu’s), Mia Hirst (Goldminers), Lucas Pay (Settlers), Rubi Kelly, Scarlet Free and Ivy Patterson (Jackaroo’s). Tess Denham also coached at Jamboree.

3xCUP Junior Association State Championships 

Well done to those who represented Swan Hill Flyers!

Under 11 Boys – Finished 17th (Hamish Pay, Wilhem Foott, Harry Grayling, Rafael Foott, Judd O’Sullivan). 

Under 13 Girls – Finished 11th (Stella Scott, Ivy Patterson, Rubi Kelly, Mia Hirst). 

Under 13 Boys – Finished 16th (Will O’Bryan, Deacon Roberts, Archie O’Brien, Henry O’Bryan). 

Under 15 Girls – Finished 16th (Lyla Morton, Evie Kelly, Miela Roberts, Lola Patterson). 

Basketball Vic Pathways

Basketball Victoria provides High Performance opportunities for elite athletes across Metropolitan and Regional Victoria. Rising into our High Performance pathway through selection tryouts, camps and program invitations, each year Basketball Victoria gives 100s of elite athletes an opportunity to expand their knowledge base, improve their skills as well as meeting and exceeding their potential on and off the court. 

 

VALE MURRAY TRESEDER

The Swan Hill Basketball Association is saddened with the news of the passing of Life Member Murray Treseder. Murray passed away on 9 Oct, 2023.

Murray’s extensive basketball journey started in Swan Hill as a junior with the Trotters basketball club in 1967 which continued to the highest stages in the sport spanning over decades driven by great commitment and passion to the game of basketball.

Murray was involved in Swan Hill Basketball on many levels from committee member, player, coach, and mentor and lifetime friend. He was also involved with the local Tigers and Speewa clubs as a coach and player which led to many premierships’ titles year after year.

He coached Swan Hill representative teams with great success in the 1970 & 1980 era and was particularly known for his development with the Swan Hill junior boys’ program and titles with the senior women’s team in Division 1 Country Championships. His coaching interest was to help develop country athletes reach their potential and compete at the highest level.

Murray’s coaching career extended Australia wide and to international ranks receiving many accolades along the way: –

  • Basketball Victoria Country junior boys’ and girls’ state teams in Victoria and Western Australia – winning Gold silver & bronze with our Victoria Country teams.
  • Head coach of Bendigo Braves SEABL women, men & junior teams
  • WNBL level with Sydney and Perth coaching 99 games in the league.
  • Assistant coach 1989 with Australian Gems (U19 women) winning bronze.
  • Director of Coaching Western Australia, Coach at Western Australia Institute of Sport, Head coach in Western Australia Basketball of the Basketball Australia’s National Intensive Training Program (now the BA Centre of Excellence)
  • Wheelchair basketball Head coach Rollers 2001 – 2007, winning a silver medal at the Paralympic Games in Athens 2004, Bronze medal at the Gold Cup (World Championships) in 2006
  • Great Britain men’s wheelchair team Head Coach 2007 – bronze at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and European Championship success in 2011 and leaving British Wheelchair basketball after London 2012

Murray’s basketball knowledge and friendship has touched so many in the basketball circles on and off the court in Swan Hill and around the world. This contribution has helped influence numerous players and their families to a lifetime of basketball enjoyment and success.

The Swan Hill Basketball Association extend our heartfelt condolences to Murray’s family and friends. He will be sadly missed.
